As autumn approaches and rainy days become more frequent, it's always nice to get some inspiration for things to do. Although Copenhagen is beautiful in the sunshine, there are lots of fun things to do when it's raining outside.

There are plenty of indoor activities to choose from in Copenhagen, so we have selected some of our favorites that we think you should try next time the weather is a little grey.

Dagmar

Dagmar Theater

The cinema is one of Copenhagen's cosiest cinemas and also one of the smaller ones. The cinema's five auditoriums are not the largest in the city, but fortunately that doesn't matter, because the atmosphere is good and more intimate than in some of the larger cinemas.

With its central location right by Rådshuspladsen, it is easy to get to, making it an obvious choice on a rainy day. Here you can sink into the soft chairs, enjoy the smell of freshly popped popcorn, and let yourself be absorbed by the world of the film while the rain drums quietly outside. Dagmar Theater shows both big blockbuster films and more “niche” films. So there should be something for everyone.

Planetarium

On a rainy day, a visit to the Planetarium by the Lakes is an obvious choice. Here you can delve into the mysteries of the universe and be swept away by magnificent film experiences on Northern Europe's largest dome screen. You sit almost in the middle of the galaxies as the films unfold above and around you, and it feels like a journey into space without leaving Copenhagen. In addition to the films, you can explore exhibitions about the solar system, black holes, and humanity's place in the cosmos. The Planetarium combines entertainment and learning in a way that is fun for both children and adults.

A trip to the planetarium is both educational and unique, and something that is suitable for the whole family. The shows vary, but they all share a focus on astronomy and space travel, the starry sky, galaxies, and planets.

Perchs Tehus

Afternoon Tea at Perch's Thehandel

When it rains, it's always nice to have something warm to enjoy, and at Perch's Thehandel, you can do just that. It goes without saying that you can get tea at Perchs, but what makes it truly unique is their afternoon tea with a selection of small sandwiches, warm scones with jam and lemon curd, and small sweet cakes, naturally accompanied by a pot of tea from Perchs' famous assortment. The atmosphere is calm and the rooms are elegantly decorated, and it almost feels like stepping into a little time capsule in the middle of Copenhagen. On a gray day, the ritual surrounding tea provides a special kind of calm, and it's an obvious way to seek shelter from the rain and warm up.

However, it is recommended that you book a spot for afternoon tea in advance, as it is very popular. So if you want to be sure to get a spot, a little planning is not a bad idea.

Aire Ancient Baths

Aire Ancient Baths

If you need luxury and pampering when the rain is pouring down, then Aire Ancient Baths is probably our best recommendation for you. Behind the historic brick walls of the old malt warehouse in Carlsberg City, a sensual universe of warm baths, subdued lighting, and the scent of orange blossom awaits. Here, time and everyday life disappear, and instead you get peace, well-being, and a feeling of luxury in the middle of the city. The thermal baths, combined with the option of massage or special rituals, make the experience a complete journey for both body and mind.

What makes Aire special is how it combines a raw industrial look with an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. The warm pools and quiet rooms invite contemplation, and it is impossible not to relax once you step inside. Aire is the perfect sanctuary where you can recharge and find peace while the city outside is gray and wet.

Folkehuset Absalon

In Vesterbro, in the middle of Sønder Boulevard, there is an old church that now serves as a cultural center. Every day, there is a wide range of events, such as communal dining, ceramics, singing, dancing, bingo, and yoga. Absalon has become a gathering place in the neighborhood, where people of all ages meet, and that is precisely why it is an obvious place to go when the weather outside is not conducive to outdoor activities.

The cozy atmosphere is not only created by the long, colorful tables and high ceilings, but also because the place is always buzzing with life and activity. Even though you often share a table with people you don't know, Absalon feels like a large communal living room where you quickly become part of the community. Rainy days are perfect for joining in the communal dining, trying your hand at a new activity, or simply enjoying a cup of coffee in the colorful surroundings. There is always something going on here, so whether you want to be creative, social, or just have a place to retreat to in dry weather, Absalon is a safe choice for a cozy day in Copenhagen.

bastard spilcafé

Bastard spilcafé

If the rain keeps you indoors, Bastard Café in Huset in Magstræde is an obvious place to go. Here you can immerse yourself in all kinds of board games, as the café has over a thousand games to choose from, ranging from classics such as Monopoly and Ticket to Ride to advanced strategy games and quick card games. You can always get help from the volunteer “game gurus,” who are happy to guide you if the rules seem confusing. At the same time, you can enjoy a cup of coffee, a cold beer, or a snack while you play. The atmosphere is very relaxed and social, and it is a place where friends, families, and strangers meet around the games. On a rainy day, Bastard Café is therefore a perfect place to seek shelter, as it has everything you need to pass a few pleasant hours.

GoBoat is a fun and easy way for families with children to experience Copenhagen from the water. With electric boats that require no sailing experience, you can steer your own course through the city's charming canals. In addition to canal routes, GoBoat also offers trips with a captain out of the harbor onto the open sea, so there is something for everyone. A pleasant and unique activity that is suitable for the entire family. Even if it rains, you can still sail with GoBoat; you just need to dress appropriately.
